Statistics Explained ×

Generation Time: Total time in seconds to generate the crossword puzzle.

Nodes Explored: Number of search states visited during the MAC (Maintaining Arc Consistency) algorithm. Each node represents a decision point where a word was assigned to a slot.

Backtracks: Number of times the algorithm had to undo a word assignment because it led to an unsolvable state. Lower is better - it means the algorithm made good choices.

AC-3 Calls: Number of times the Arc Consistency 3 algorithm was invoked to prune invalid words from possible slots. This constraint propagation reduces the search space.

Revisions: Total number of domain revisions performed during AC-3. Each revision checks if words in one slot are still valid given constraints from intersecting slots.

Slots: Total number of word slots (across and down) in the crossword grid that need to be filled.

Assignments: Number of slots that were successfully filled with words. When complete, this equals the number of slots.
